Herland Roots is a market garden and food box delivery service. We have a fantastic opportunity for the right individual to be part of our exciting new venture. We are moving from our old home at Herland Farm onto our new growing site on the Lizard and beginning to re-establish our market garden and new packhouse facility and retail site on the south coast of Cornwall.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual, who is passionate about what we do, to be involved in all aspects of this exciting project.
There is a small community of market garden projects already established on our new growing site. Our 1 acre market garden will sit in a sensitively cultivated area surrounded by 48 acres of a rich, diverse wildlife haven, being run by the One Life Ecology Project.
Job Title: Market Gardener, working in all aspects of our market garden, packhouse facility and food box delivery service.
Start date: 1st April (an earlier start is possible), initial 1 year contract with a 2 month probationary period.
Salary: £12.60 per hour (real living wage). 28 days leave per year pro-rata inc. bank holidays.
Location: Lizard / Porthleven
Days & hours of work: 28 hours per week, over 4 working days, between Monday and Sunday. Specific days to be discussed. Typical summer hours 7:00 – 14:30. Typical winter hours 8:00 – 15:30.
Job Overview: We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our market garden and food box delivery service operation on the south coast of Cornwall.
As part of a small team you will be involved in many aspects of running our market garden, food box delivery service, retail and farmers markets.
You will be tasked with producing high-quality, sustainably grown salads, herbs, fruits and vegetables in our new market garden, which we are re-establishing on a new growing site on the Lizard Peninsula. We are committed to growing organically, with our new site being already certified by the Soil Association. We grow produce for our farmers markets, food box delivery service, retail and also wholesale to cafes and restaurants in the local area.
Your role will also encompass working in our packhouse facility (around 20 minutes away from our growing site) and as part of our delivery team, packing orders and delivering to customer’s doorsteps in our designated delivery vehicle.
