Step
Preheat oven to 200°C / 180°C fan oven
Step
Slice the turnips very finely (use a mandolin if you have one). Slice the onions thinly.
Step
Grate the cheeses and mix together. Use two thirds to layer and with the remaining third, mix in a separate bowl with the breadcrumbs and smoked paprika..
Step
Layer the turnips in a well greased oven proof casserole or gratin dish. Season and sprinkle with a layer of sliced onions and then the cheddar / parmesan mix. Add a sprinkle of herbs. Dot butter on the top.
Step
Repeat until all the turnips and onions are used, and pour over the milk.
Step
Top with the remaining cheese and breadcrumbs mix.
Step
Bake for 30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the vegetables cooked through.
